Mill Creek High’s Kelly Murdock has been named Georgia’s Female Coach of the Year by the Georgia Women’s Intersports Network. The recognition was announced at a banquet on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, in conjunction with the National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which is celebrated February 8.
“I feel honored and grateful,” says Kelly Murdock, Mill Creek High’s Head Softball Coach. “I try really hard to be a teacher and coach focused on life’s lessons rather than just about winning and losing. The emphasis in my classroom and on the softball field is hard work, commitment, discipline, and character. I hope my students leave Mill Creek feeling empowered to make good choices, to be selfless, and to always maintain the perspective that decisions they make affect many people, rather than just themselves.”
Each year, the Georgia Women’s Intersports Network names a high school coach as Coach of the Year. This is the first time Ms. Murdock has received this state honor. She was nominated by Mill Creek High Athletic Director Gary Long. Ms. Murdock first joined Mill Creek High three years ago when the school first opened. In addition to her coaching duties, she teaches health, girls’ weight training, and girl’s team sports. She started her GCPS career at Rock Springs Elementary five years ago, while at the same time coaching at South Gwinnett High.
