County Partnership Builds Football Press Boxes

Published May 6, 2008

Today the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners agreed that press boxes should be added at the existing Bay Creek Park football complex and at the new Rock Springs Park. Bay Creek opened in 2004 and Rock Springs is now under construction. The projects are the result of partnership agreements between Gwinnett County and two youth athletic associations.

Through its Park Partnership program, the County shares the cost of park facility improvements under a matching grant program. The County will pay $50,000 of an $117,500 contract with Artlantic Inc., while the Grayson Athletic Association (GAA) pays the remainder for the Bay Creek press box. The County also agreed to a similar partnership with the Collins Hill Youth Athletic Association for the Rock Springs press box.

“We’re happy to leverage County dollars in partnership with these youth sports organizations to provide needed facilities in our parks,” said District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau. “The Grayson Athletic Association continues to raise the bar for youth athletics in the greater Grayson area, and I personally appreciate their efforts.”

Kevin Kenerly, District 4 Commissioner, said, “As a volunteer football coach myself, I really appreciate all the work the youth athletic associations do to offer high quality sports programs here.”
