'A Night in Brazil' for Ovarian Cancer Welcomes Georgia Force Kicker

Published May 8, 2008

Causa boa. And just in case you aren’t up on your Portuguese that means good cause. Which is exactly what will be taking place the evening of May 14th at Katie and Ian Walker’s Howell Mill Road casa. The cause is supporting Atlanta’s own world-renowned Ovarian Cancer Institute, whose highly comprehensive ovarian cancer research programs are unique to any in the world. The good is helping save lives. And it just does not get more boa than that.

The occasion is “A Night In Brazil,” and Patrons of OCI’s upcoming September 14th fundraiser, “Evening at Bacchanalia”, will be treated to a fiesta of Carnaval proportions. A garden setting flush with florals will set the mood for a festive atmosphere filled with the culture, melody and rhythm of our friends from down south.

Traditional Brazilian food and drink is on the menu, featuring an array of grilled meats, vegetable and bean dishes to sate the appetite. And premium Brazilian cachaca, provided by Rio-D, to quench the thirst. Rouzbeh, one of the most acclaimed flamenco guitarists in the South, will provide the music and magic to set the night in motion.

Special guests include OCI founders, Benedict Benigno, M.D. and John McDonald, Ph.D., as well as scientists from the OCI lab at Georgia Tech, allowing Patrons a unique opportunity to learn more about the intricacies of this mysterious disease.

Carlos Martinez, kicker for the Georgia Force -- and the face behind the Force’s Kicking For The Cure fundraising initiative -- will also be on hand to greet fans and promote his campaign.

Of course, you can’t get to Brazil without a passport. And “A Night In Brazil” is no different. For information on how to become a Patron and obtain yours, contact OCI’s Libby King at (678) 420-4143, and she will be more than happy to answer any questions and assist you with your travel arrangements. Cursos felizes!
