Beginning this week, Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation (GCPR) will be shutting off all outdoor water fountains located in the parks to aid with local water conservation efforts and in preparation for winter months and the early freeze predicted for next week.
“This is annual preventive maintenance that we do to avoid water line breakage and any unnecessary water leaks and to avoid repair costs, and to help with water conservation,” says Blake Hawkins, Support Services Manager for GCPR.
According to Hawkins, all water fountains in GCPR parks, including dog park fountains, will be shut off by Nov. 9. Until water fountains are turned back on, park patrons are asked to bring their own water when using outdoor park amenities.
