The Tutus for Tatas are gearing up for another record year of fundraising for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Having raised more than $80,000 so far this year and over $600,000 since their formation in 2005, they land in the top fundraising 3-Day teams in the US each year.
As well as the commitment to walk, each walker commits to raising a minimum of $2,200. The 2007 3-Day Walk raised more than 86 million dollars nationwide. The money funds research and treatment. As the primary beneficiary of the Breast Cancer 3-Day, 85% of funds raised goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, with 15% going to the National Philanthropic Trust.
The Tutus for Tatas biggest fundraiser returns better than ever this year. The third annual “A Taste of Hope” fashion show and luncheon will be held on Saturday, August 9, at First Baptist Church of Sugar Hill. The program runs from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. (doors open at 10:30 a.m.), and Karyn Greer from WXIA 11Alive News and Denny Moore will be co-hosting the event this year. An expo, entertainment, delicious food, door prizes, a live and silent auction are on the agenda, among other festivities. Organizers say that the most incredible part about this event is that, due to the generosity of their supporters, 100% of monies raised goes directly to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day.
Coldwater Creek will be providing the clothing for a truly inspiring fashion show, in which all of the models are breast cancer survivors. Delicious foods from local restaurants -- including Johnny Carinos, Dominick's Little Italy, McCray's Tavern, and Honey Baked Ham -- will be served, and entertainment for this event is as unique as each team member. Guests will be entertained by Bob Ferrell, Shades of Pink Gospel Choir and Richard and his Tutus.
All are invited to bid at a live and silent auction stocked with a wide assortment of items donated from local businesses. Included is everything from restaurant gift certificates to jewelry to luxurious spa treatments. A 2008 Limited Edition 'Warriors in Pink' Mustang will be raffled off as well.
Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Tables of 8 are $350. Cancer survivors are one-half price. For more information, visit www.tutus-for-tatas.com, email Barb Mock at mock5496@bellsouth.net or call 770-963-9493.
