Aurora Children's Playhouse 2007-2008 Starts August 18 with Magical Performances

Published Aug 10, 2007

Aurora Theatre is proud to announce the 2007-2008 Aurora Children’s Playhouse line-up.  As always the Theatre has assembled the best children’s performers in the region and are bringing them to a stage in Gwinnett County to give parents and children the chance to share the magic of experiencing a live performance.

Just like years past, Aurora Children’s Playhouse will take place on selected Saturdays of the Mainstage season. What parent’s love about the program is that they make performances accessible for even the youngest theatre patron with a Saturday morning time slot, 10 a.m., and reasonable ticket prices. Many returning parents have mentioned that Aurora Children’s Playhouse was their child’s first experience with a live performance, and they were surprised that they were able to be so attentive.

In the third full season of children’s theatre, Aurora welcomes back some favorites and looks forward to seeing the tricks newcomers have up their sleeves. Winner of two Jim Henson grants to create new puppet shows, Lee Bryan -That Puppet Guy is back bringing new titles and a holiday tradition to the Aurora Children’s Playhouse. Other retuning favorites include Piccadilly Puppets, Wendy Bennett, American Kasper Theatre, Rob Cleveland, Laughing Matters, Barry Stewart Mann and magician, poet and puppeteer Sean Driscoll.

New for this season is storyteller Cynthia Watts, featuring stories from the African Diaspora. Bosco the Magician will present a special Halloween Trick or Treat Magic show. The Singing Storyteller Eric Letwin will appear for a live concert, and Aurora welcomes Curious Moon Puppet Theatre twice to the Aurora stage.

Children’s Playhouse Schedule for August – September

8/18/2007 -- Cinderella - Wendy Bennett

Wendy tells the familiar and well-loved fairytale with delightful music, props, puppets, costumes, and lots of audience involvement.

8/25/2007 -- Kicks For Kids - Cynthia Watts

Storytelling is as old as the earth, yet as fresh as the rain. Cynthia Watts features stories from the African Diaspora. Each program begins with a storytelling song that sets the tone of the program.

9/1/2007 -- Fish & Ships - Curious Moon Puppet Theatre

No one has ever been able to solve the mystery of what is haunting the old, sunken pirate ship. And none of the other fish in school believes that amateur detective Fry can either in this sing along extravaganza. Fish & Ships uses the rare technique of shadow puppetry.
