Berkmar Cluster Parents Invited to Learn About Children’s Title I School

Published Sep 17, 2008

Parents and guardians of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students who attend Berkmar Cluster Title I schools are invited to learn more about how the school and home can work together to help every child succeed. As part of the school system’s “Be There” initiative to inspire Gwinnett parents to be there for their student, the schools have teamed up to provide parents with additional information and assistance.

Ten Title I schools have teamed up for the event. The group includes the nine Title I schools in the Berkmar Cluster which are J. A. Alford Elementary, Benefield Elementary, Bethesda Elementary, Corley Elementary, Kanoheda Elementary, Rebecca Minor Elementary, Berkmar Middle, and Sweetwater Middle. In addition, Charles Brant Chesney Elementary, part of the Duluth Cluster, also is part of the free event.

Title I schools receive federal funds to better serve their students, which include a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Representatives from each of these Title I schools will provide parents with additional information about the Title I program, the parent centers and classes available for parents, as well as individual services from each school. More than 30 business partners and community members also plan to attend and be available to assist parents.

The “Be There Fair” takes place this Saturday, September 20, 2008, 9:00 a.m.-noon, at Sweetwater Middle, 3500 Cruse Rd. in Lawrenceville.
