Pinckneyville Community Center Hosts Two New Exhibits

Published May 2, 2007

The Pinckneyville Community Center will sponsor an exhibit of two-dimensional work, “The Many Moods of Pastel,” by the Southeastern Pastel Society and “For the Birds,” a ceramic installation by Joslyn Dyer.  The dual event will be held at the Pinckneyville Community Center located at 4650 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Norcross from May 4 through July 25. An opening reception will be held May 10 from 7-9 p.m.  Exhibition hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m. Admission is free.

Fifteen artists are represented in “The Many Moods of Pastel” and all are members of the Southeastern Pastel Society (SPS), which has been headquartered in Atlanta since its inception in 1987. This exhibit exemplifies the fact that, although the medium is referred to as pastel, the paintings are as vibrant and exciting as paintings done in any other medium.  SPS is currently an organization of more than 250 artists, all dedicated pastellists from across America.  Participating artists are: Sally Arnold, Sallie Atkins, Nedra Bailey, Martha Bator, Marilynn Brandenburger, Carrie Deegan, Mikki Dillon, Carolyn Doherty, Diane Hooker, Barbara Jaenicke, Cyndi Marble, Ronnie Offen, Cam Stoltz, Bill Suttles and Sharon Weiss.

In  “For the Birds”, Joslyn Dyer will be showing an installation of slip-cast ceramic pigeons.  Dyer is currently in her fourth year at Georgia State University pursuing a B.F.A.  She hopes her installation helps the viewer recall and imagine personal journeys.
