Gwinnett County families are invited to learn more about nutrition and healthy choices during the Peachtree Ridge Cluster Nutrition Fair, a free community event open to parents in all school clusters. The event takes place Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the Peachtree Ridge High Commons Area.
The fair is designed to provide nutritional information and awareness to elementary and middle school families. “When healthy eating habits are established at an earlier age, our students are less likely to encounter many health issues at a later age,” says Michael McEvoy, Peachtree Ridge High School Nutrition Program Manager. “We are in a unique position to share what we know and provide families with information that will help to enrich their lives. If a family as a whole makes healthy choices, there are many added benefits, including better performance in school.”
At the nutrition fair, participants will enjoy:
· Free cooking lessons as a chef demonstrates easy and nutritious recipes that can be made in the average home with a minimal amount of culinary skill.
· Free samples of fruit, vegetables, and vegetarian products.
(The vegetarian products are now available in all Gwinnett schools, with additional items expanding into the elementary level as of next school year)
· Informational displays of specific nutritional and health topics.
· A fitness program performance
· A “Wheel of Health” game supervised by Peachtree Ridge High students
· Access to “Nutri-Café” for parents, an online based menu service
Peachtree Ridge High students will participate in the fair at different exhibits, in the kitchen, and as guides and mentors.
