Oxendine Joins Speaker Gingrich’s Call for Energy Independence

Published May 30, 2008

The following can be attributed in quotes to John Oxendine, candidate for Governor 2010:

Our current dependence on foreign oil threatens our national security and economic prosperity by making us vulnerable to dangerous dictatorships.

We should build more oil refineries in America to lower the cost of gas and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. With appropriate safeguards to protect the environment, we should drill for oil off America's coasts to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

The US Senate is out of touch with working Georgians by failing to reverse the moratorium on oil-shale development last week.

The average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.94, which is $.74 higher than a year ago. At a time when working Georgians are paying more at the gas station, more to heat their homes, and more at the grocery store, having liberals in Congress pass the equivalent of a $150 billion tax increase is the wrong solution.

The answer is energy independence for America.

I call upon all Georgians to visit www.americansolutions.com and sign the petition - Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less. I have also linked to the petition at www.johnoxendine.com.

Once again, Speaker Gingrich is leading the way on a real solution to a real problem.

Laws and policies that restrict access to America’s abundant energy drive up the price of fuel and electricity. They cause widespread layoffs and leave workers and families struggling to survive, as the cost of everything they eat, drive and wear spirals higher.

According to the Investor’s Business Daily, there are an estimated one trillion barrels of oil trapped in shale in the U.S. and Canada. Retrieving just a tenth of it would quadruple our current oil reserves.

Georgia overwhelmingly supports more domestic production of energy to help ease gas prices.

Georgians want to Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.
